Seminar Programme Introductory Year

The GAPS introductory course offers a chance to explore the work of CG Jung, it covers some of his main theories on the structure and dynamics of the psyche, psychopathology and psychotherapeutic technique. You will explore concepts of the collective unconscious, archetypes, individuation and the 'self'. The course takes the form of seminars led by GAPS members in small groups, with room for discussion.

Students will be asked to do some preparatory reading and prepare presentations.

This course can be taken as a stand alone study aimed at deepening the knowledge of Analytical Psychology or as a foundation year before applying for the training course.


First Term - The Academic Year starts  every January

* 1 Map of the psyche; the tools of analysis and psychotherapy

* 2 Conscious and unconscious

* 3 History of the unconscious


Second Term

* 4 Collective unconscious, archetypes, spirit and the psychoid archetype

* 5 Personal myth and the individuation process

* 6 Psychology of religion and the religious function of the psyche


Third Term

* 7 Psychology of dreams

* 8 Jung's theory of the opposites

* 9 Stages of Development: theories of the personality and its development

* 10 Psychology of emergence and interpretation of neurosis and psychosis
